Rising Costs of Roofing in Michigan

Hello I’m Martino with Martino Home Improvements. Today I just wanted to talk about the rising cost of roofing in Michigan.

This year things are getting a lot of out of control. We had about an 8 or 9% increase in roofing costs for all the material in June from all the suppliers.  This is caused by the rising cost of fuel because all our shingles and plastics and metal, the commodities prices going around the world today are going out of control. I just got notified last week that we’re having another price increase in July. July price material increases are going be between 10% and 12% up from June. So as of June, compared to earlier this year Michigan roofing costs are already up 20% what they were from December.

Now if you’re thinking about getting a new roof installed  it would be very important to act sooner than later. Because after our July increase they are calling for another increase in September and then one more after that one for this year. So this year if roofing shingle prices beginning of the year they averaged about $85 a square. By the end of this year shingle prices are going to be over $100 per square and that’s just the shingles. That doesn’t include the ice and water, the under lement, the aluminum drip edge the step flashing. All these items that go together in a roofing system. Also your ridge vent that’s also made of a plastic which comes from oil. They’re all going up, so if your looking to get a roof done, it is definitely better to act now.
